“Christ first, in service” - Aside from our spiritual relationship with God,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, this is what the main emphasis of the Bible is
all about. Christ tells us to love one another. But He doesn’t mean "service" in some
sort of lofty ethereal way that we just talk about. Praying for people is important and so
is love. But God expects us to back our prayer and show our love with our actions.
God wants us involved!
Christ tells us to serve one another, and this means ‘love, put to work’. It is what we know and understand to be “compassion”. This is where true love abides and where true hope is found.
“My life has changed over the last 4 years working daily with those whose lives are on the brink of disaster with cancer, and now they and their families must deal with this reality. There is no choice. I’ve watched as people set forth upon this perilous journey to keep their strength and dignity, prepare for the worst, and plan for hope. And yet we all know in the end, we will all meet our Lord whether we are prepared to do so or not.
But it’s not about the end. It’s about the journey and the road we choose to take there. God set us forth upon the Earth with a mission, and that is to help and support each other, and in doing so, serve Him. This is our greatest victory that coupled with Eternal Life that He offers, we grab ahold of the prize that death cannot loosen.
Each day is about serving God by serving people we know and those that we don’t. Such love is found in the big things, but also in the little things that take little time! A soft smile, a word of encouragment, a helping hand, or sometimes, just some understanding and listening. Through service, we and those we encounter can each have a God-touched Day, every day. In doing so, we are more blessed than those we serve.”
